How it all started ...
Highland Open Water Swim is the brainchild of outdoor enthusiast Jeff Forrester. We started in 2016 to enjoy the beautiful environment that we are lucky to live close to in the Highlands of Scotland, while at the same time raising funds towards Children with Cancer UK.
The original idea only involved a few events, but numbers just kept increasing and by the time we got to our final event last year - across the Sound of Mull - there were more than 100 crazy people willing to swim or help our safety team.
Now that we have charity status, its is our intention to continue to promote open water swimming as long as we can, inspiring others to experience some of the most beautiful coastline and see the aquatic life, from common porpoises and bottlenose dolphins, to basking sharks and common grey seals to name but a few.
And on top of all that - thanks to your generous donations - we get to raise funds to support Children with Cancer UK and their work helping young children affected by this disease.
Safety brief before a swim
Getting in the water
SAFETY FIRSTWe aim to run every event as safely as possible. We always ask participants to use a safety buoy, which allows our safety team to follow each swimmer individually.
Our safety procedures also inlcude a briefing before the swim to ensure that all participants are aware of potential risks.
FRIENDLY SWIMS!At heart, we're just a group of friends keen to get in the water! We run friendly and welcoming events and anybody can joins us.
Stay for a cup of coffee and a bowl of hot soup at the end of the swim, and you may find yourself some new friends!
CHARITYWhy we do this? Well, mostly because we're crazy! In addition, we want to promote open water swimming while raising funds for a very worthy cause.
So far we have raised over £8,000 for Children with Cancer UK - Thank you so much for your support.
